"[Tyler's] straight forward, dead-on writing style invites us to get hot and happy and bowled over by love right along with Carly and Hunt. Which makes being there when they do come undone one of the best things about the novel — next to just how great a romance it is." -Michelle Buonofiglio, Romance: Buy The Book

“Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it’s cracked up to be. That’s why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don’t risk everything, you risk even more.”

the winner(s) of the Beyond His Control contest

Well, if you guessed that the pup with the orange ribbon was ours, you were right! So Alyssa, Blanche and Angie-la each get a book! If you can get me your addresses ASAP, I’ll mail the books out this afternoon - (send through my contact page)

We didn’t actually pick the puppy - the breeder picked for us, because, besides being a part of the family, this pup is also going to be trained as a therapy/assistance dog, if we can do it - the assistance dog thing is a ton of training but either way the dog will be trained to look out for my daughter. So the breeder picked by temperment, but she also knew that we would prefer a big male dog (we’ve always had females)…

(Angie-la, I think he’s actually lying down in the picture where he’s feeding, but it’s hard to tell. But two of my four dogs have been runts and they always end up HUGE!)

World, meet Gus:

Carol, the breeder, said: He’s very sweet, a little independant and very smart.

He also looks WAY too innocent in that picture, doesn’t he? He’s a weimaraner, btw - it’s the breed my family’s always had, and Zoo and I had adopted a rescue weim when we first bought our house, but she was sick and we had to put her down about 4 years ago. In fact, Babs is immortalized in Sydney’s upcoming, Unleashing The Storm, so that was nice to be able to do that tribute for her.

Gus is currently residing in Vermont, just waiting for us to come and grab him up on February 2nd. He’ll be 12 weeks old (the breeder was wonderful, kept him an extra month to do a little training, which will be a huge help to me in the long run.)

Anyway, I missed you guys too - feels good to be back. :D

  1. Jaci Burton Says:

he’s gorgeous Steph! I’ll bet you can’t wait to get him. :D

  2. Angie-la Says:

YAY!! Thanks Steph! I can’t wait to read it! Thanks so much! :D

Gus is beautimous. I think weimaraners are the most lovable big dogs next to a dalmatian. I have a soft spot for dals. Mine was 12 years old when we lost her 2 years ago. Fancy thought she was a lap dog. She used to sleep with our dachshunds..I think she thought she was one.

  3. Jean Says:

    He’s so cute.

  4. Amie Stuart Says:

Awwwww he’s gorgeous!!!!!! My uncle has one and htey’re lovely dogs

  5. Steph T. Says:

Jaci - I’ve been walking around since we got the pictures saying, want him NOW! I cannot wait!!!

Angie - got your email - book will go in the mail today! Dals are SO pretty - I’m sorry about Fancy - she sounds like my kind of dog :) All our weims at 90+ lbs thought/think they are lap dogs…and there’s not much room to aruge…

Hey Jean!!! I think he’s the cutest thing ever! Will I say that when he goes through his chewing phase and eats everything in my house…

  6. Alyssa Says:

What a cute puppy! Just adorable. My guess was pretty lucky–I almost went with purple. :D Thanks for the contest.

    Glad you’re back!

  7. Steph T. Says:

Cece - they really are good dogs, I have to say…crazy, but good. :)

me too, Alyssa!!! It was a good guess! When we first got that picture, it was way too soon for them to pick which pups went where, so we had no clue…

  8. Angela James Says:

Oh, he’s got a precious face! I love puppies (so much that I just got two of my own this wee. Ergh). It’s awesome that the breeder would keep him an extra month. What kind of training will you be giving him?

  9. Steph T. Says:

Hey Angela…must stop by and check out your pups :) And yes, the breeder was so awesome about it, would’ve kept him longer if I needed her to…but I’m DYING for Gus to be here immediately…

As for training, well, first year will be basic obeidence stuff, although since Lily doesn’t have many words Gus will learn to respond to hand signals as well as the words (heel, sit, etc)…after he’s a year we can start with the assistance training/therapy training, which is pretty specialized - dogs learn to be the owners eyes, ears and hands, so to speak. He’ll need intensive training, so the trainers will come here…we’ll see how it goes. At this point, which I’ll talk about in another post, we’re looking for Gus to be a seizure alert dog for her - that’s my biggest goal right now.
