You went to a private catholic school too? Cool! Yeah, those nuns could be more strict than a drill sargent. I'll bet they'd make soldiers and drill sargents weep like girls.

As for those contestants being defensive, it's only normal. Your writing is like your baby. You don't like to hear people say bad things about your baby, right? But of course, when you're exposed to critics, be you a writer or songwriter, you have to learn to accept that people have opinions and well...sometimes we won't like them. *sighs*

Great blog entry! I wish every writer understood what you are saying.

As a writer and editor, when I give suggestions it is the writer's responsibility to decide what, if anything, she changes. She has the final say about her plot, characters, setting, and other elements of the craft of writing.

It's a delicate balance between understanding what works in a story or novel and knowing when to take in the suggestions of others so that the writing grows to a deeper level.

I think it's hard to shrug off comments from someone who doesn't "get you," but when you find the right person who does, it's great. :)

Rockstar supernova sure seems to have its personalities. Of course last season did too. It'll be interesting to see how it goes.
