“On a similar note, while you're free to think whatever you like about my life and death, if you think I wasted my life, I'll tell you you're wrong. We're all going to die of something. I died doing a job I loved. When your time comes, I hope you are as fortunate as I was.”
-Andrew Olmsted, US Solider, killed in Iraq on January 3rd, 2008 – words from his final blog, written to be put up in the event of his death. (www.andrewolmsted.com

“Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it’s cracked up to be. That’s why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don’t risk everything, you risk even more.”

past the middle

First of all, I just need to announce that I am on page 303 in the current WIP!! I’m now in the home stretch and yanking the rest of the plot along with me.

Middles? We don’t need no more stinkin’ middles…

But we do need horoscopes.

Astrology for Writers, Editors and Filmmakers

ARIES: the two eclipses, one on the 3rd and one on the 17th, give you a cause for surprise, and maybe shock. this can be good. even if the tussle is ugly, you will look back at this turning point as instrumental. change is good, keep telling yourself.

Funny thing - the words ugly, tussle and shock don’t reassure me much. I’m not all that big on change either and I’m VERY tired of turning points that I have to look at and say, well, that was a learning experience. Enough with the learning experiences already, please. And I really hope that the bathroom floor incident doesn’t count as the surprise, because that’s just not right at all.

Although, the shock could be that Dell is actually going to send me a replacement computer. Now, yes, I’m happy they’re finally doing something. But refurbished computers don’t really thrill me. Because, think about this - some poor sucker’s going to get my computer. So I’m reserving judgement until I see what happens. But the thought of having all my data transfered over to another computer and having to reinstall everything? It makes me shudder.

Look, you know, no matter what they do, I’m at the point of no return and constant bitching. Because it’s scary to think about losing 302 pages worth of work. *mutters something about knowing I promised to be better about backing up my files and makes mental note to find a blank CD-R*

Although I’ve got to give some props to Dell on behalf of Larissa. Her husband lost his brand new computer to that stupid *&#%@ hurricane. But he’d purchased spill insurance. So I guess he called them and they asked him what spilled on the computer.

His answer? The Gulf Of Mexico.

Larissa’s husband’s got jokes. And he’s getting a brand new computer too.

Another reason to love Dell. Congratulations on slogging through the midden — uh, middle. ;)

  2. raine Says:

Is that really the horoscope for Aries for October?? (shudder)

Dammit, if the change was GOOD, I wouldn’t HAVE to keep reminding myself, now would I?!! :shoot:

  3. Michelle Says:

OMG, LOL at the Gulf of Mexico. That’s a scream. I hope he gets a new computer soon.

And lucky you, getting a new computer. Computers get outdated so quickly now, I have a new one in my future.

  4. Joely Says:

Congrats on breaking 300! Kudos to Dell, too. I haven’t been impressed with DH’s Dell laptop, but I’ll keep buying them (and fixing them) when they stick by such a “definition” of spillage.

  5. cece Says:

I shouldn’t laugh at the GUlf of Mexico but that was pretty damned funny.

Maybe it’ll be something to do with the house. My Oct scope sucked :shoot:

  6. Emma S Says:

    It’s really damned funny!

It’s the this “can” be good that’s a little scary to me. Good luck this month.

  7. Rene Says:

Glad there seems to be an end to the Dell fiasco. I have a dead Compcrap laptop that has a bunch of my work on it. I could pull it off if I ever got the desire to pay somebody to fix it. DH got me an external hardd drive to save to. Right now, considering the garbage I’ve been writing, the device snickers and asks do I really want to keep that?

  8. Tori Says:

The Gulf of Mexico spill IS funny! I’m glad they’re living up to their insurance promise (unlike other companies I could name….).

And I’m glad they’re replacing YOUR computer!

    WTG on the writing!!!!! :bravo:

  9. Danica Says:

ROFL @ the Gulf of Mexico.

  10. Jean Says:

The Gulf of Mexico. That’s rich. Glad there is a bright spot for them every now and then.

As for you, Steph, back up those files, or I’m sending Jake back home. And he’ll turn your writing life upside down again.

I use Dells at work. When I had a laptop, they provided pretty good support. Haven’t had any problems with the current desktop iteration. I can’t figure out which moron didn’t order a DVD drive with it, though.

  11. Steph T. Says:

    Thanks, PBW!

    Raine - I couldn’t agree more.

Michelle - they have 3 tries to get my same computer (which they’re no longer making) and then, if they can’t find it, I think I get a brand new comparable one.

Cece - Maybe. *fingers crossed* And yours looked better than mine…

Emma - ah, another Aries. Yes, the _can_ word is not a good one in this case.

LOL Rene - now I have to worry that my computer’s laughing at me behind my back…and I think I do need some kind of external hardrive. Must look into that today.

Tori - I was happy that they were honoring their agreement to Larissa and Bryan. For me, it only took a year of bitching and moaning, but I guess I would’ve done that anyway.

Danica - I laughed SO hard when she told me that…

Jean - I PROMISE I’m going to back up my files (do you catch the desperation in my voice - you must keep Jake for a while - it’s not a hardship, right?)

  12. Jean Says:

Are the files backed up yet? (Jake, honey? Would you come here a minute, please?)

External hard drive. Wonderful choice. I have a 300G Maxtor, and I love it.
