Tori & Sasha - and the more you try and explain it, the worse it gets. I give...

PJ - that would drive me crazy. My IT guy loaded a ton of games onto my laptop and I've never used them. If I'm in procrastination mode, I bloghop, because it usually ends up being research.

Teresa - my contractor has met my mother, which helps a lot. He's also lived with his in-laws when his house was being done, so he understands all too well.

Amy - the motherboard got replaced about an hour ago. Also, some heat coil thingy. The fan is working again.

OMG - LOL Rene! I had to set up email accounts for my parents and they keep trying to log into gmail through yahoo. It's scary...

*waves to Brenda* I use that word a lot.

Kacey - my mom bought a Toshiba - it was half the price of my Dell and it's a much better machine. But the chill matt is a good thing, because no matter how good the fan is, if you work with the laptop on your lap, it starts to get too hot.

Michelle - 7 years is awesome for a computer these days. I had an old IBM laptop I loved. But, like you said, the replacement parts were going to cost too much to be worth it in the end. I needed a whole new battery pack or something.

Oh, I've had quite a few words with mother in them when my laptop dies. Or my disk drive dies and there's no way to transfer my work because the stupid thing is too old for a flash drive. Argh! But at least yours is under warranty. After 7 years, it's time for me to get a new one. :frazzled:

hm, I mumble that mother word sometimes too...

I doubt if my mom knows what a blog is...and I'm not telling her

If my laptop heats up on me, I panic. I should look into one of those chill mats, shouldn't I? But I gave up on dell ones. Got a Toshiba...Love it. Hope it's good to me...

I'm lucky, my mother isn't connected to the Internet. The World Wide Web is a scary place that she leaves to my father. He isn't much better. He actually bought "AOL for Dummies."

She wouldn't know a blog if it jumped up and bit her on the nose. Thank goodness for that.

I still don't think my mom gets blogging. "Your what?"

Anyway, I found your motherboard story very interesting, as my Dell laptop has been running hot and the fan doesn't seem to work. I can't tell you how that makes me twitch. I cannot. Give up. My laptop. Not even to save its life.

Do you have to send yours away to get a new motherboard? And how does he know it needs a motherboard without looking?

If I mention the word blog to my mom I get this look :frazzled:. And my husband does the same thing when I'm on the computer. He thinks I never work. And I'm curious, how did the mother conversation work with the constractor?

:frazzled: Why is it that people will always assume you're "playing" anytime you're on the computer? All my work is done on the computer: my writing, my tech writing, my assistance-to-my-hubby-who-works-in-the-computer-industry work. I can't even remember the last time I used my laptop to  play a game. I think my mom would have understood, though (bless her); she was pretty "up on things" (her words). I miss her - her blog would've been hilarious.

Mothers are strange. And though they mean well, they can also be darn annoying! Mine always seems to think if I'm on the computer I'm online, too. And I'm never "working" on the computer. I'm "playing". *sigh* Yeah, Mom. Whatever. :whatever:
