"[Tyler's] straight forward, dead-on writing style invites us to get hot and happy and bowled over by love right along with Carly and Hunt. Which makes being there when they do come undone one of the best things about the novel — next to just how great a romance it is." -Michelle Buonofiglio, Romance: Buy The Book

“On a similar note, while you're free to think whatever you like about my life and death, if you think I wasted my life, I'll tell you you're wrong. We're all going to die of something. I died doing a job I loved. When your time comes, I hope you are as fortunate as I was.”

“Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it’s cracked up to be. That’s why people are so cynical about it. It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don’t risk everything, you risk even more.”

the honeymoon phase

I got up earlier than the husband and the three year old by about two hours. I always forget how nice it is when everything else is so quiet. It almost makes me want to get up that early every day. Almost. But I’m going to have to seriously consider it, because I got eight pages done on the Blaze plus a few odd paragraphs on the new novellas. (Yes, there are two of them now. Don’t ask. This is always happens.)

The novellas are so much fun to write. Mainly because I’m in the honeymoon phase with them. You know, everything they do is right and I’m still laughing in certain places during the rereads. I still don’t know what’s going to happen around the next corner but I know for sure it’s always going to be fun with these novellas, and that they will always love and adore me.

The Blaze is currently in the, why do you need to leave your dirty socks in the dining room and why can’t you put the dishes into the dishwasher, how could I ever have thought anything you said was funny, stage. Post honeymoon phase, and rapidly approaching the Frank and Marie in Everybody Loves Raymond stage, where they’re going to see each other through until the end but nobody’s going to be very happy about it until it’s over. So I’m going back in, right after this post.

Anyway, I finally caught Rock Star INXS last night and got to see all the new performances and then got to see who got tossed. It’s really turning out to be a fantastic show, because I love the songs they’re doing and the majority of the singers have awesome voices. It makes me wish for the millionth time that I had a halfway decent voice. Not that I’d want to be a rock star, but it would be nice to be able to sing along to the radio in public without scaring people. So far my votes are for Jordis and the girl whose name I can’t remember - the one who sang the Clash song this week. I do like the Mick Jagger-ish looking guy too.

Sigh . . . I love the honeymoon phase. My WIP is there now.

Two novellas? I’m so tempted to try one . . . but I can’t write short. I’m so in awe of those of you who can. :bravo:

  2. Jordan Says:

The honeymoon phase is delightful. I wish it lasted longer…in the books.

  3. kacey Says:

AH, the honeymoon phase. So nice. Ends too soon. And then some day…way in the future when you have one of those Zen writing days on the story…you get another brief glimpse of the honeymoon. Sigh.

  4. Cece Says:

LOVe the honeymoon analogy!!!!!!! I lost the honeymoon phase w/my wip a long time ago and at the rate i’m going the damn thing will only be 200 pags

  5. Steph T. Says:

Linda - the first novella I wrote was so much fun. And I’m jealous of you writing long so easily.

Jordan - I’m with you on the ‘in the books part.’ I’m quite happy here in the socks in the dining room phase of RL.

Kacey - I’m hoping the Zen day visits briefly during this evolution…

Cece - I can see I’m going to have to do a lot of threatening with empty pitchers in your fridge and secret meetings with your children to get you to write.:yuck:

  6. Jerri Says:

Best of luck with both projects, Steph!:bravo:

  7. Emily Says:

I’m at the Frank & Marie stage with one - it’s finished (thank god) but still needs revisions.

So even though I have several things that should come first, what am I doing? Starting a new one just to feel that honeymoon rush!

  8. Amy K. Says:

Maybe I’m just a grump, but the honeymoon phase never seems to last long enough for me. :frazzled: Love the analogy…very true!

  9. Jill Says:

Well I’m off topic but just wanted to say I’m loving the INXS show too! Maybe because I have this secret rock star fantasy …

As for the honeymoon stage of writing … that never happens in the beginning for me. It happens in the home stretch. I know, I’m weird. What can I say?

  10. Jaq Says:

It’s never the honeymoon stage in the beginning with me either, Jill. But the middle and ending are sweet. On the other hand, I normally write long, but I’m having a blast with the novella. who knew. :smoke:
